For my cultural event I chose to visit the Metropolitan Museum of Art. I always wanted, even when I lived in Portland, to visit it and experience that feeling so popular among those who visit 'they had already been. I have often imagined what it would be like, but when I went for the first time on Saturday 14 October I was speechless. It was much more than I imagined. I spent 4 hours there and in that time I could only see the first floor and briefly run to the second. Say no to plagiarism. Get a tailor-made essay on "Why Violent Video Games Shouldn't Be Banned"? I saw the sculpture of Adam by Tullio Lombardo, Alheus and Arethusa by Battista Lorenzi, Andromeda and the monster by Domenico Gaidi, Ugolino and his sons, my favorite of all for the reality of the expressions on the faces of the sculpture and the extraordinary detailed work done by Jean Baptise Carpealle. These are just some of the ones I saw, the ones that stuck in my memory because they were so amazing. From that gallery I passed into another, a gallery containing 19th and 18th century rooms, with all their antique furniture. Rooms filled with a completely different atmosphere than mine or what I'm used to. Beautiful chairs, carpets and paintings invited me to touch them, to feel their culture, to hear the noises they made, but of course I was forbidden to be touched or even get close to them. After that I visited beautiful galleries of African Art paintings, which took me to a world completely different from their own culture. I walked among masks, plates, chairs and the millions of textures and colors of the wood they were made of. And then I was led into another room, a gallery of ancient Greek works. This was probably the most interesting room for me because I always found Greek culture the most amazing of all and I even attempted to learn the language once, but I didn't delve into it and so over time it disappeared from my memory. In that gallery I saw splendid thousand-year-old dishes. I felt like I was there, with them, as old as they were, living a small part of their lives. That room led me to another room called "Year One". It's a room full of Asian culture, especially Chinese and other cultures similar to it. I saw and read about the Great Wall of China, how it was built, how long it is, and its purpose. I discovered that it is one of three man-made structures that can be seen from the moon. After that room is a gallery filled with weapons and ancient soldier clothes. Since I am against violence and also because I am a woman, that room didn't seem very interesting to me, so I quickly visited it upstairs. There I found a gallery of musical instruments. No words can describe how wonderful and unique some of them are! I saw many types of flutes, guitars, organs and violins. They all looked different depending on what country they were from, some looked weirder than others. But perhaps in the gallery of European paintings I felt more alive. Since I love to draw, seeing some of the greatest works of art was very inspiring for me. Magnificent drawings, which are thousands of years old, struck me with their beauty. I was jealous that I lived now and not in the 18th century. The richness of the colors, the beauty expressed through each and every painting, made me wonder if the world has progressed or actually gone back a bit in terms of developing its artistic abilities. I entered the photography and drawing gallery only for a few.
