During winter break, I found science everywhere I went. It all started on the 20th when my friends and I went to another friend of mine's house to make gingerbread houses and exchange gifts. While making gingerbread houses, you need to have a fairly stiff frosting package, otherwise whatever the frosting contains will slide off. The molecules on the icing help keep the candy cane looking like it's glued together. On the 23rd, another group of friends and I also exchanged gifts. I have some LED strip lights that use DC from a power supply. After I got home and plugged everything in, I pressed the remote to make the lights change colors. Say no to plagiarism. Some force is required to open, and when you tear wrapping paper, the tear wanders as it acts against the direction of the fibers. After opening all of our presents, we cleaned up and got ready to go to Rocklin. Driving includes friction and force. Friction occurs when the car is moving and the road is rough or smooth and force occurs when my father presses the accelerator pedal. When we got up there, my cousins and I had a nerf gunfight. Mechanical energy occurred when we inserted the bullet because all the parts had to work together to keep it there, then fire. The elastic energy was also active because when we pulled the trigger it set off the projectile. After that, my cousins and I went on their trampoline. Potential energy was stored in the springs and when we were in the air, just before we hit the trampoline, we also had potential energy. We had kinetic energy before we started to descend. We had it when we were arriving. The day after Christmas we took a long drive home. When we got home, I went straight to bed. The next day, my friends and I went ice skating. Ice skates and ice had low friction because the skates slid through. This made it easier to stop and turn. I only fell once and gravity made me fall. On the 28th, Gianna, Amber, Emily and I slept at Emily's house. We made a lot of TikToks, which are short videos that we danced to. It took muscles to move and memory to remember the dance. We ate a lot that evening too. A couple of days later, my friends and I went to Burlingame to hang out. We had basketball practice that evening. While dribbling, my hand and gravity would push the ball down, causing it to bounce up because it was full of air. When you shoot, you try to aim and then push the ball out of your hand. Gravity causes the ball to fall after it is released. On New Year's Eve I went to dinner with my family and then my family and I went to Amber's house to celebrate New Year's Eve. We counted and when it was midnight, we used all the firecrackers. When you pull the string it creates friction and causes the opposite side to pop open with confetti. The next two days I stayed home and relaxed and on Monday it was time for school. This winter break was great and I hope the next break will be just as fun!
