The diagram is completed during the Define or Measure phase which will help answer the following questions (SIPOC): When does the process begin and end: What is the SCOPE? Who is affected by my project – suppliers and customers: Who are the STAKEHOLDERS? What are the inputs, outputs and key stages of the process: what could we MEASURE? What is this project working on: how can we COMMUNICATE about the project? Business contextCMN is a small family-run business manufacturing for the defense aerospace industry. They have been in business for 30 years and are located in Southern California. They have an annual revenue of $10 million with a growth rate of 7% year over year for the past ten years. They offer the following services: Product engineering and design Prototypes and production machine parts Inspection, machining and assembly equipment and tools Precision mechanical assemblies Their current clients include Lockheed Martin, Rockwell Collins and NASA. Their staff regularly receives the training necessary to effectively use the specialized equipment they use to produce their products. In addition, they also produce small arms parts for the US military and custom machined parts for motorcycles. CMN currently has a QMS plan to address quality standards and procedures. With the increasing use of Six Sigma for process improvement, the aerospace industry, as a whole, has become more rigorous in ensuring that manufactured parts meet or exceed specifications 99% of the time. CMN also complies with ISO 9001 due to the nature of the aerospace parts it produces.
