Remember the Titans is a movie released in 2000. It depicts a group of kids who were part of a high school football team in the 1970s. It starts with a funeral, and just like any other funeral, everyone is dressed in black, flowers everywhere, the coffin in the center of the crowd, sobbing, and a close-up of a girl with bright blonde hair. She is the narrator. It's 1971 at TC Williams High School in Alexandra, Virginia. An African American, Herman Boone, was hired as the head coach at this high school. Remember that this is a time when segregation was still popular. He was assigned an assistant coach who was white. His name was Bill Yoast and he was most recently the head coach at the high school. This high school, and just like many other high schools in that area, were filled with only white kids. Boone also turned down the assistant coaching job, but is essentially threatened by white players who would boycott if he didn't coach. He takes charge so that the players don't lose their scholarships either. Along with Boone as head coach, he brought with him an entire team of African American student/athletes. About a week later, the African-American players attend a meeting in the high school gym. While there, the white players interrupt the other players and end up in a fiasco of racial slurs. When everything ends in chaos, it eventually splits and the players are flogged. Say no to plagiarism. Get a tailor-made essay on "Why Violent Video Games Shouldn't Be Banned"? As the days of practice progress, the African American members and Caucasian members of the team constantly clash physically or verbally with racial tensions. During a team run in Pennsylvania, the team receives a motivational speech and changes the players' perspectives. As the journey continues, the team starts to feel like a team and they start playing like a team, which means no fighting, no drama, no racial slurs; just pure concentration on the game. Eventually, the team returns home where things start to turn around. The season for the Titans is relentless and unstoppable. They eventually go 10-0 and win a state championship. Their quarterback unfortunately gets involved in a car accident that paralyzes him from the waist down. About 10 years later, he gets into another car accident and unfortunately ends up dying. The film ends with the entire team at the funeral singing "na na na, hey hey hey, goodbye". Remember that The Titans have many leadership roles shown in the movie. Coach Boone took the lead role in leading the team to become a team. Coach Yoast was hesitant at first, but he took to Boone and helped him lead the team. Another group of leaders who played an important role in the film were the captains, the seniors, who took over the role when the coaches were not present and set the tone for the season. In conclusion, Remember the Titans has many leaders set in the film who represent the true meaning of leadership.
