Topic > Review of the dance show The Nutcracker by Salwa Rizkalla

I went to CalArts Winter Dance 2019 and watched the dance festival unfold, however; the one that struck me was The Nutcracker, choreographed by Salwa Rizkalla. He presents The Nutcracker annually in Irvine and promoted it during the show. The Nutcracker is a ballet show and represents a more classical moment in dance. The choreographer expressed her passion, by the way, the dance was performed, you can see that it was not the first rodeo compared to other dances I have witnessed. The story is told in The Nutcracker, because of the scenes used, including the setting and props, and the way the dancers moved their bodies. The story was simple and very clear. One of the first scenes where two singers went on stage and had to make it clear to the audience that they were dolls and not human beings like the other person on stage. It was a particular moment where moving was essential to the plot. Such dancers used staccato arm and leg movements and moved their heads quickly and precisely. As an audience member, they are separated from everyone else on stage. Say no to plagiarism. Get a tailor-made essay on "Why Violent Video Games Shouldn't Be Banned"? Get an Original Essay I have never seen the Nutcracker ballet in person and it was a fascinating experience witnessing it for the first time. It was magnificent both visually and musically. The music that accompanied the dancer's movement was spectacular. While I wasn't aware of the non-traditional ballet aspect of this creation, as it originated in Russia in the late 1800s, I was still enchanted by the magic and appreciated the modernization. It is an extremely interesting experience to see a ballet rather than a spoken word theater element. At first I wasn't sure I could follow it, but I was amazed at how easy it was. The use of design choices, especially costumes, made it easy to follow the story. When artists tried to show audiences that we had left reality behind and were now entering the world of dolls, costumes played an important role. The dancers are now dressed in traditional doll clothes to demonstrate that they are dolls rather than fast, staccato movements. This made it more comfortable and grateful for the actors to dance, making it clear to the audience that they are no longer human beings. I didn't see any dances before this, other than what we saw in class and the hip-hop dances I did or saw my cousins perform. Overall, the concert was amazing and I had too much fun, in my opinion, it was one of the longest festivals; however, it was worth it. I learned a lot and got to think critically like I never had before. I would recommend The Nutcracker as a Christmas classic to many others to watch even if they don't like ballet just because of the way they showed the artistic value and incredible storytelling abilities that only dance.
