Radio-Frequency Identification (RFID) technology is considered a mobile application and has been used for the past 50 years. The electronic device consists of a small chip and an antenna and serves the purpose of encoding or magnetic stripe on the back of a credit or debit card. The magnetic stripe must be scanned to obtain all identifying information. RFID technology is effective and efficient because readers can interrogate tags much faster. Compared to barcode, RFID can read longer distances and takes less time than barcode. According to (Technovelgy.com, n.d.), RFID technology can extract information up to 300 feet. RFID can enable data transfer for consumer goods via electromagnetic fields. The RFID system consists of four components and the so-called transponder, an antenna, a reading device or reader and a data processing system. All of these applications allow RFID technology to store information without visual contact. The medical industry loves RFID technology because it can load the processing server quickly and the employee doesn't have to stand directly behind the computer. According to (Alien Technology Corporation, 2008), pharmacies have a portable device called ARL-9650 that can quickly authenticate medications once the manual order validation process is automated. This improves operational efficiency and accuracy. The ARL-9650 adds the convenience of a single connection. According to (Alien Technology Corporation, 2008), the ARL-9650 uses the Power-Over-Ethernet (POE) option, which is a simple LAN cable that serves as a dual function. It allows communication with the server and supplies power to the player.
