The focus of this essay, however, will be on developing countries and the alternatives available to mitigate natural and man-made disasters that are available to politicians. Developing countries are generally countries that have not reached a significant degree of industrialization compared to their populations and which have, in most cases, a medium-low standard of living. There is a strong correlation between low income and high population growth. In today's globalized nation, countries are classified as developed or developing nations. This form of categorization is based on the social, political and economic status of the country, i.e. earning capacity, standard of living and type of government. In other words, developed countries can be considered wealthy, with effective governance, high gross domestic product (GDP), political stability and social well-being. Some of these developed countries are Europe, North America, Japan, and New Zealand, among others. Developing countries, in contrast, are defined as inferior, poverty-stricken, have high levels of unemployment and illiteracy, highly dependent on developed countries, low GDP and an unstable political system. They lack some basic services and resources, mainly due to an ineffective governance system and lack of policy implementation and enforcement. Some developing countries are said to be concentrated in Africa, the Caribbean, South and Central America, Asia and the Middle East. Each developing country is independent of each other and has its own perspectives and concerns about life.
