“The latest tragedy at Virginia Tech [where a student shot and killed 32 people on April 16, 2007], one side says, could have ended with only a few people dead if had been an armed citizen on the scene shooting the shooter” (Medred). While other people believe that the Virginia Tech tragedy could have been avoided if there had been better gun control. “The latest tragedy at Virginia Tech, the other side argues, would not have happened if there had been better gun control, if it had been difficult to obtain a gun, if guns had been banned, etc.” (Medred). Both arguments are as valid as they are invalid. No one can know what would have happened if there had been someone on the scene capable and willing to stop the killer with a bullet. Likewise, no one knows whether any gun laws would have stopped, or even slowed, this killer's commitment to his murders..
