A Child Called It book summary/analysis This book is titled "A Child Called It" by David Pelzer is about the life of a child named David who lives in Daly City, California with his father named Stephen Joseph who works as a firefighter in San Francisco, California. Also, with his mother named Catherine Roerva and his four brothers named Stan, Ronald, Russell and Kevin (the youngest). At the beginning, David has a wonderful life because he enjoys his parents and brothers. His mother takes care of him and loves him. She prepares delicious food for her family and dresses very well, as does her makeup. The family vacations together to different places, such as Portola, Memorial Park, Russian River and camps for a week. Stephen, his father, doesn't spend much time at home because he has to work 24-hour shifts and loves David who he calls "Tiger". Catherine, his mother, makes sure his house is clean, loves his children and plans family vacations. She takes the kids on outings while dad works and prepares delicious, exotic foods for her husband and kids. Furthermore, they spend their family holidays with different activities. For example, at Christmas, the whole family decorates the tree, and every year one of the kids has the honor of placing the angel at the top of the tree. However, everything changes when David's mother catches him doing evil and starts punishing him more than his brothers, even though she caught them all committing the same crime. She started punishing David by putting him in the corner of his bedroom and he would stay there until one of his brothers asked his mother if he could go out and play. Then, he grabbed David's face and slammed it into the mirror and he repeated, “I'm a bad bitch... middle of paper... she's going to take all her anger out on David. On one occasion David's mother stabbed him and did not take him to hospital despite doing housework in that condition. Whenever David thought his mother was changing, she was kind to him because a social worker or other person came to her house. Furthermore, his father had witnessed all these incidents and would do nothing to protect David and was tired of all these things to the point of leaving David and his family alone. Even after Kevin was born, his mother never changed. To summarize, on March 5, 1973 David freed himself from his mother because he told the truth to the school nurse and she recorded everything on a paper, then all his teachers met to discuss the bad treatment from his mother. After all, he was taken into custody by the San Mateo Juvenile Department and was finally free.
