Dalton Conley notes that people in 1959 are different than people in 2009 and many roles have changed significantly from the role of women in society and the workplace to the delivery boy or girl becoming an older delivery man or woman so they can earn some extra money to feed their family or pay for additions to their home. The family breakfast has transformed into a McCafe and has gone from simple to complex with the modernization of cell phones and the increase in overall salaries nearly quadrupling for some. The disappearance of families has been replaced by expensive cars, clothes and watches. Dr. Conley also created a word that describes the multi-faceted people we have become: intra-vidual. The intravidual has many faces that are constantly in a state of competition to be at the forefront of the individual's mind. For example, in our minds, despite our outward appearance, we want to be faster, stronger, smarter, richer, more beautiful, the boss of our work. These personalities want to control the individual and fight every day. On the outside we all face the same struggle, being bombarded and battered by life rushing towards us at a million miles an hour and it becomes frustrating but necessary to deal with all these events coming our way. Dr. Conley believes that intravidualism has trumped individualism thinking in many ways. Individualism was the basis of American society and the ethical principle used to make people independent
