HOST: Today, more and more students are choosing to study abroad in America, like Chinese students. Some people may think that international students can easily meet with local students. However, things are really different. The truth is that most Chinese international students cannot always get along with American students. Only a few Chinese international students have local American friends, and even then, they only have fewer American friends. Why can't they make American friends? Furthermore, since some parents strongly control their children, does this phenomenon put pressure on students from their parents, and how can we solve it? Jia Ren, a Chinese international student studying at ASU, talks about her situation on whether or not she has American friends. Jia: I don't have any American friends. I think the hardest part about not being great friends with them is the language. Host: Jia Ren talks about her situation of having no American friends and also points out that one issue that prevents her from becoming friends with Americans is language. Jia Ren also explains this specifically. Jia: I'm always afraid to talk to them. It's because I don't know if I talk about this or if I talk in this form, they will be angry with me or not. I am afraid that what I said may cause another meaning to American students, which may cause some problems. Host: People must admit that Jia Ren said that parts of the language with different meanings will always cause problems when we communicate. This is a big problem because international students cannot communicate with local students. Furthermore, there are still some problems within international students themselves, which prevent them from successfully communicating with the local school... middle of paper... Deng: While talking to my daughter, I actually have a new point of view to blend this new American life. Host: So, the main reason why Mr. Deng doesn't blame his daughter for not making American friends is communication. We all know that communication can solve many problems, so Chinese students can try to talk to their parents to prevent parental control over making friends. Furthermore, according to our interviews, the two most important issues that prevent international students from making friends locally are language and internal factors. Local American students think that language is a problem, but the problem is that international students only ever hang out with students from the same country and speak their own language. In the end, it's easy to see that students on both sides can do one small thing to change this problem. But we still hope that the university can lend a hand to help them.
