Should physician-assisted suicide be legalized in the United States for terminally ill patients? The first part of writing a research question is stating the topic, which is physician-assisted suicide. Next, I decided what argument to make in favor of assisted suicide (to be legalized). Finally, who would benefit from the legalization of assisted suicide (the terminally ill). Academic sources provide researched information that has been reviewed by peers in the field of study, while popular sources can be written by anyone to inform or entertain readers. Academic sources use research, experimentation, and statistics to generate in-depth knowledge in a general field of study, which is then published in credible professional journals. Articles from popular sources, on the other hand, are usually published in magazines and newspapers as short articles, describing what the audience wants to read. Academic sources are different from Internet sources because academic articles come from a print source and are supported by research and peer review. Internet sources may provide information that may be inaccurate, distorted or false. A library database is a collection of online resources that contain scholarly information for use in scholarly research. The database includes information found from published print sources such as magazines, newspapers, periodicals, and reference books. Information from the Internet must be evaluated because anyone can publish information on the Internet. Often web pages do not contain dates, publishers or authors that can verify the credibility of the information. To determine the credibility of a website, the researcher must determine its authority, accuracy, currency, and objectivity. The authority defines... middle of paper... as the university's online library database. Articles can be searched by academic journals, publications and full text. The Google search engine was the least helpful in finding information. The first website to come into existence was Wikipedia, known for generating information based on Internet searches. Additionally, through Google search, many of the websites displayed were blogs or sites where people expressed their opinions on the topic. Completing the research project changed my view on how to search for articles based on the topic of interest. Before completing the research project, I had never used a thesaurus to expand my list of keywords and find articles that used alternative but similar words. For the past few years I have used a library database to obtain information for research projects and articles, which has created the familiarity I have with the library database.
