Topic > The Influence of Memories on Individuality - 1586

Memories generate a breakdown in an individual's individuality. Furthermore, memories incorporate unambiguous repercussions on oneself. In the book Mind readings an Anthology for Writers by Gary Colombo, there are several essays that reveal how memories cause individuals to doubt their own ideas about selfhood. “The Inheritance of Tools” by Scott Russell Sanders, Sanders writes about the passing of his father and the strategies he implements to survive his grief. “The Brown Wasps” by Loren Eiseley, Eiseley demonstrates why individuals conjure up memories in their imaginations, his only reliable guide to happiness. Individuals hold on to memories that take a lifetime to fabricate. Roy F. Baumeister's "The Self and Society: Changes, Problems, and Opportunities" uses many labels to justify individuality. Baumeister examines the history of individuality. The essays by Sanders, Eiseley, and Baumeister illustrate that situations shape unpredictable sets of memories that promote anxiety and characterize individuality. The individual's memories and selfhood connect the past and present causing a paradox that inspires individuals to feel sane or manic. Often memories are simply the fruit of the imagination. Furthermore, in life, individuals have conflicts of their “inner self” that result in a collision of individuality. Circumstances activate automatic sets of memories, amplifying the anxiety that characterizes individuality. Sanders' grief over his father's death unleashes a wave of memories that he must deal with. Sanders is building a wall in his basement and hears the news from his father. Sanders remembers hitting his thumb and swearing at the hammer as if it had deliberately smashed his thumb. The meaning of the hammer and the...... center of the card......and, individuals fight their “inner self”. Memories generate a division in an individual's selfhood. Furthermore, memories leave strong impressions on oneself. Memories cause individuals to experience reservations in their judgment. These conflicts are life-changing or devastating to an individual's personality.
