I was offered a higher position at the Kalamazoo home improvement store and this allowed me to get closer to my girlfriend. While working I saw how the company was making changes; some were good and some were bad. There was even talk of closing the shops. This got me thinking about whether or not I should stay or start considering other career options. As I thought about it, I started to think that I should look for something with more consistency, with less chance of scaling. I started thinking about changing my career so I could start college. I would be the first male in my family to complete college, and for me, that would already be a great accomplishment. Not only did I begin my college career in the spring semester, but I was able to earn grades that allowed me to be on the dean's list. This way I hope that the males in my family will follow in my footsteps and earn a college degree. It all goes back to that quote at the beginning of the story: “If you want to be someone and you want to go somewhere, you better wake up and pay attention!” So yes, I want to be something, and I know that as the world changes, education is becoming a key ingredient to the success I will achieve.
