Indeed, the Constitution contains provisions for the direct and indirect election of different parts of the legislature and executive, on the basis of overlapping but distinct electorates (Muller 1251). Additionally, many people believe that the process of electing the Electoral College president requires replacement with a direct popular vote to honor our democratic form of government in the United States. Therefore, the winner-takes-all system inaccurately represents the will of American citizens since not all candidates win electoral votes. On the other hand, a popular vote for president could lead to numerous runoffs if neither candidate achieves a majority, creating more opportunities for voter fraud and vote manipulation that does not truly represent the will of the people, the states, or the government.
