He has the misconception that in the end, his plan is flawless and will ultimately work in his favor. Unfortunately that's not how the world works. Chris McCandless, from Into the Wild, hated society due to the conflict and distrust growing within his own family. Instead of being mature and facing his problems, McCandless ran away from his family and committed himself to finding his person and the deeper meaning of life through a long trip to Alaska. He, as a result of his upbringing, was disgusted by society and knew he did not belong. McCandless saw life in society as a “PLASTIC QUOTE.” According to McCandless, society affected everyone in a certain repugnant way, something he was not suited to be a part of. Both McCandless and Holden felt like misfits and both immaturely went on wild journeys trying to avoid their problems. Likewise, both are faced with even more serious obstacles and consequences.
