Samantha Abaya CamposMrs. RainoneEnglish III – Period 2Friday 23 May 2014The positive and negative aspects of The Great Gatsby, written by F. Scott Fitzgerald, portrays a very perplexing concept. It talks about different topics that affect life today. They are Time, the American Dream, Immorality, the 1920s, and the Class that contains money and power. All the themes consist of true integrity and show the personality traits and mentality of the characters in this novel. The people mentioned in the story are Nick Carraway, Jay Gatsby, Daisy Buchanan, and Tom Buchanan. They all have a worthy role in society, considering that class is always involved in their world. Having to witness diversity within characters, wealth was an important factor in society. It has led to being a motivating force for people; however, they tried not to lose sight of who they really were. Money has managed to cause scandalous problems, as well as making the American dream a thing of destiny. Knowing the drama of the story, Jay Gatsby, the central person who dragged us all into the big questions, had shown readers at least two different sides of himself. Gatsby was an educated man from Oxford, who made his way into society with the help of his old friend Dan Cody. Since being robbed of his inheritance, Gatsby has learned the ropes of everything. Before and after World War I, he fell in love with a woman who made him feel complete. Her name was Daisy (Buchanan) and she had loved Gatsby very much. The future arrived quickly and Gatsby discovered that she was married to Tom Buchanan and also had a daughter. The positive note is that Daisy never loved Tom; she just needed someone to support her, a supporter and a lucky life to keep her healthy... center of the card... rtiti, etc. I was influenced and inspired by these quotes that struck me. Nick quoted "No amount of fire of freshness can challenge what a man will store in his ghostly heart." (Fitzgerald) There was a disappointing emotional state. This meant that nothing could match his imagination because his expectations were so high. I have learned to lower my expectations and challenge myself on how much a woman can store in her heart. Another quote from my Nick said, "It never would have occurred to me that a man could start playing with the faith of fifty millions - with the determination of a thief blowing up a safe." (Fitzgerald) Nick meant it towards Wolfsheim. Nick thinks Wolfsheim is crazy and has crazy tactics, which allows him to make a clean sweep. It's also mind-blowing because it shows that you don't have to be high class to profit from your wealth.
