2. What course concepts from the course textbook or nursing research from community/public health nursing journals have I used and applied to nursing practice during this rotation? In the course article, Framework for Community Health Nursing, the World Health Organization (WHO) Regional Office for Southeast Asia discusses this topic from the perspective of future nursing education. From the literature I learned the importance of orienting the nursing profession towards the community healthcare system. There is currently a need to revitalize primary healthcare systems, as stated in this document. There is a need to change some of the focus of the education and training of new nurses in an effort to meet the healthcare demands of today and the future as many students will not enter this field. Furthermore, nurses already working in community health should start to focus on current prevention and health promotion aspects. I plan to apply these ideas in my To answer my questions I consulted my clinical instructor and other resources such as course literature. From the course book I was able to learn that public health nursing can be applied to lead collaborative efforts to achieve optimal health for people locally and nationally. It also helps develop innovative programs to improve the health of populations and guide health reform efforts within and across health systems. Regarding working conditions, I learned that most public health nurses work for government agencies, nonprofit groups, community health centers, and other organizations that aim to improve health at the community level.
