The No Child Left Behind law appears to be the primary force guiding schools in the quality improvement process, including the school where I work. Through this document I will evaluate the need for quality improvement within the school system in which I work. The document will include an “as is” flowchart of the process to be analyzed. The document will describe the relationship of the process to the organization's strategic plan. Both internal and external customers of the school I work for will be identified. Finally, the document will include an estimate of the level of improvement that would be achieved and the value of implementing the new quality improvement process. Need for Quality Improvement Schools are failing all over the United States along with the school I work at and there is a need for quality improvement. Collected data from ISTEP testing on state mandates, attendance, graduation/dropout rates, student demographics, and records of parents in the PTA and who attended parent and teacher conferences. I was able to bar graph the information to better understand where improvements needed to be made (Burrill and Ledolter). ISTEP test results showed that only 55% of students system-wide passed the test. At the middle school where I work, only 50% of seventh and eighth graders passed the test (Indiana Department of Education). The system as a whole is quite below the state average in all academic subjects. This has led the school system to renovate some schools to meet state and federal standards. School attendance has improved dramatically since the mid-1990s. In the last four years the attendance had been 95%. This is still 2% below the state average, but…middle of the paper…it would satisfy both internal and external customers, and satisfying internal and external customers is how a business stays successful. The article really opened my eyes to the need for a new improvement process within my company to ensure the satisfaction and success of everyone involved.
