Criminal InvestigatorImagine pulling into your driveway and seeing your neighbor's house surrounded by police, flashing lights, and duct tape with bodies covered in a white sheet on the lawn. It was a shootout. Afterwards, a van pulls up and a criminal investigator comes out and begins assessing the crime scene. He begins taking photos, marking shell casings, packaging evidence, documenting tire treads on the pavement, and inspecting and collecting DNA evidence from the bodies. Criminal investigators are highly trained graduates who play a vital role in bringing criminals to justice. Being a criminal investigator is an exciting and ever-evolving career that also helps you make a difference. Criminal investigators help make a difference in a community by evaluating and solving crimes such as burglaries, homicides, assaults and other problems in communities where criminal intent exists. Even after a crime has been committed, investigators will follow up on leads and may testify in court (“Criminal Investigator Job Description”). Some people who become criminal investigators were or are also police officers. Criminal investigators work with many people such as police officers, detectives, medical examiners, and photographers to solve criminal cases. The job of a criminal investigator has variable working conditions. Some days require long shifts that may fall on weekends, days, nights, even holidays (“Become a Criminal Investigator”). In some cases a criminal investigator may be on call 24 hours a day (“Crime Scene Investigator”). There are also days spent rigorously in the laboratory performing numerous tests and experiments.
