Although I found the "History of Golf" to be an interesting resource. So I was interested in knowing who played the game. This led me to the “People/History of Golf” article. Golf was very popular in Europe and Old Tom Morris is recognized as the founding father of golf. He was born in Scotland, was a golf ball manufacturer and caretaker of a new club in Scotland. He played many games and won his biggest in 1862 by 13 hits, this record still stands today. As the years went by golf started to become a bigger game and in 1913 an amateur named Francis Ouimet moved to America and won the US Open. Francis beat two British professionals and that really kicked off the game of golf in America at a professional level. All this information has sparked increased interest among American golf professionals. American sports culture has changed dramatically over the last 100 years. Golf was evolving and developing during this time. Some of the people who really led the way were Walter Hagen who was the first star on the first PGA tour of Walter's 11 major titles over the course of his career and made the most money at the time, about a million. The first three players are called Arnold Palmer, Jack Nicklaus and Gary Player known as the big three of their time and currently Tiger Woods.
