Not unlike real life, the comedic material available in this episode comes from entanglement, particularly Beverly's with her son Adam. This entanglement is a direct derivative of the emotional distance between her and Murray. There appears to be widespread boundaries between family members due to their entanglement with each other. Not that we want to blame the mother or the scapegoat Barry, but family rules need to be investigated so we can understand how the family achieves homeostasis and help the family identify how their behaviors affect each of them.
