Topic > Periods of Success and Decline in the Dynastic Cycle

After the fall of the Qin Dynasty, the Han Dynasty drew inspiration from the teachings of Confucius to create the Han Synthesis. This formed the traditional belief in China that history repeats itself and directly contributed to the dynastic cycle. This is demonstrated by the use of the teachings of Confucius, the Dynastic Cycle and the Han Synthesis when addressing the Good Life, the Good Society and the Good State respectively. Each of these philosophies highlights that Chinese history repeats itself by shedding light on the theme of repetition across the three different areas. This makes the state responsible for its actions towards its people. Confucius was a Chinese philosopher whose ideas greatly influenced China in every aspect of its culture. In The Analects, he preached how to be a good man by living a life of filial piety, being a gentleman, and the way a ruler should rule his empire. The Han synthesis used many of Confucius' ideas as a guiding force in Chinese political ideology that contributed to the dynastic cycle of an empire, which stated that empires go through periods of success and decline. All of these highlight the cyclical nature of history in China and its importance in the development of the state. The genesis of the three philosophies was based on the teachings of Confucius and shows how the nature of Chinese history is cyclical. Confucius was born in 551 BC during the Chao Dynasty, about 100 years after a period known as the Warring States. Political unity was unstable in Confucius' time and as a result China had divided into small states that were constantly at war with each other. Confucius wanted to solve these political problems and help restore order in his country and for this he created his "school of thought"... middle of paper... repetition of history is an important component of the development of culture and society Chinese. In conclusion, the belief, relevance and importance of repeating Chinese history are all explained and propagated by the concepts of Good Life, Good Society and Good State presented in the teachings of Confucius, the Dynastic Cycle and the Han Synthesis. All three concepts evolved from the ideas of Confucius and all highlight that Chinese history repeats itself by focusing on the inevitable rise and fall of each new dynasty. This makes the state responsible for its actions towards its people. Confucius' ideas about filial piety and how a ruler should rule shaped the Han synthesis. No matter how benevolent the individual, time and history inevitably advance. Benevolence gives way to corruption and the process of degeneration and creation repeats itself.
