Costs create a negative outlook on uniforms due to their rising prices. Students have other events that occur outside of school such as picnics, banquets, and various formal occasions that they need to spend additional money on. A child whose guardian receives a low income does not have a large variety of clothes to choose from in the closet. Children need clothes to wear outside of school which cannot be provided. When children move to different schools, they cannot wear the same uniform. Children cannot go places or do activities due to lack of money and clothes. “Prices are an additional cost to taxpayers who send their children to public school” (Wilde). A large percentage of schools in states with fewer students do not get along with each other or do not see significant improvement. Principals and teachers say student success is not taken into account. The increase in the amount of absences, tar deaths, unexcused absences, and referrals coming into the office for behavioral problems does not decrease due to uniform policies. More suspensions and expulsions are heightened consequences due to increased uniform policy rules. Students will behave as they wish based on their education and what they have learned over time. “Without knowing it, the adults in our lives have been practicing a very productive type of behavior modification. Once we did our chores and housework, we were given “permission” to read. In other words, our elders considered reading a privilege, a highly coveted prize, granted only to those good workers who earned it. How intelligent they are” (Kalish). A student learns how to act based on what his parents allow him to do and this influences his behavior at school. Students' clothing influences students' attitudes and behavior depending on how long they feel comfortable with who they are.
