It has been an ongoing battle that seems to simply lead to failure. Especially the southwestern states are grappling with the illegal crossing of the American border by their southern counterparts. When mainstream media broadcasts daily television programs about hundreds if not thousands of illegal immigrants crossing the border every day, it's hard not to believe we're fighting a losing battle. With the technology America has today, the majority of Americans are wondering how to continue fighting this conflict. Numerous bills have been and are currently being introduced by Republicans in the House, Senate and President to take a stand on this issue and to grant a period of asylum to those who are here illegally. Countless numbers of Americans believe this problem needs to be solved. However, a majority of Americans are calling for a stricter policy on immigration, particularly on the number of illegal immigrants from Mexico in the United States. What these people fail to understand are the hardships, struggles and poverty these people face if they were to remain in Mexico. Immigration policy needs reform; the American people must understand why these individuals make the illegal journey across the border to El Norte. An important issue that is always raised in political debates is the issue of immigration. “Many Americans think that America's immigration system is in urgent need of reform” (Lee). Current immigration policy has begun to decrease the number of illegal immigrants in America. As of today, we have 20,000 Border Patrol agents deployed along the borders (Lee).
