In the past the bodies were not returned to the families, not all families were informed of the death of their relatives who died in combat, and the bodies were buried in unnamed places, graves far from the their homes. Today we certainly face our war dead with more dignity than before, now they are no longer left in a hole to be forgotten, or far from home. Efforts are now being made to locate the bodies, identify and notify the family of the deceased man or woman. There was a time when war dead were flown in and taken off the plane as if they were someone's luggage. Coffins are now greeted by white-gloved honor guards instead of baggage handlers with forklifts. The army transports the dead to airports closest to their hometowns, so they can be welcomed by their families and, in some cases, receive tributes from the community. And the coffins are taken off the plane by a guard of honor. Which shows a lot of respect for the sacrifices made by
