“In recent years, dozens of African Americans and Latinos, including prominent athletes, members of Congress, actors, lawyers, entrepreneurs and even police officers , have experienced the humiliation of being stopped on the country's highways on suspicion of a crime. Few white drivers can tell the same story.” (Boue 2014). Most black drivers have had this feeling at least once while driving. The article "It's Been Proven: 'Driving While Black' Is a Real Thing" takes a look at incidents across the United States where the multitude of racially motivated stops have been called into question. They explore three aspects of the "driving while black" problem: whites who feel they have never experienced such a thing or have been fired for being non-colored, blacks who feel they have been discriminated against, and cops who defend the forces of the order and believe that this will not happen. Many state police officers were under investigation for a series of discriminatory stops. A lawyer, William Merton, took part in the investigation of the agents and found some very interesting information. A man named John Mean was stopped by officers, where he was driving at the same speed as the cars around him and was stopped. He was subsequently threatened, with the likelihood of a search warrant, that he would give up his privacy rights and be searched. His car was then searched and he was released with a warning, twenty-five minutes later. This incident, like many others, went unreported, which denotes suspicion in the data collected by the department (Bouie 2014). Through a discussion with Christopher A.
