SETTING The main events of the story take place in district twelve and the Hunger Games arena. District twelve is where Katnis now lives very comfortably in the victors' village, a street at one end of the district where only the victors (of the Hunger Games) and their families live. This is where the first big event happens. One day Katnis is coming home from hunting and sees her mother standing at the front door, as Katnis approaches the house her mother says "You have a visitor". This is when Katnis realizes that President Snow is in the kitchen, she knows that if the President of all Panem has come bearing news then it must be bad. The second main event is when Katnis returns from the Bakery (district twelve blacks a kind of market) she notices that almost the entire city is in the city square. Naturally she goes to see what the fuss is about and only then realizes that her best friend Gail is unconscious and being held down by a pole she is tied to, about a second later she is whipped and that's when Katnis intervenes. The third event occurs in Katnis' living room. She and her family are sitting on the couch after a long day in front of the television when an announcement comes on saying that for the quarter of quell games (a special hunger game that takes place every 25 years and always has an unexpected twist) all tributes will be winners of past years. This means that Katnis will enter again. The fourth main event takes place in the arena, which is a large saltwater lake with the cornucopia (the thing that holds all the weapons) in the center, surrounded by platforms arranged in a circle around the cornucopia. . The lake is surrounded by about fifty... half paper... panem): this is where the president lives along with most government officials. TONIUsanne Collins was very good at evoking emotion in this book. There was tension in the air throughout the book and it was conveyed in a way that wasn't obvious, but if you paid attention you understood it. Overall I felt a little nervous when bad things happened and relieved when good things happened, this was a very stressful book. THEME The message conveyed in this book is that even when the odds are not in your favor you should do what you know is right and it may be difficult but it is worth it. PERSONAL RELEVANCE I really liked this book, it was a nice escape. While reading this book I felt like I was in a different world, I felt like I was in their world. The author just wrote it so that everything that happens seems real. Overall this was a great book.
