To motivate Bob a manager may conclude that Bob is insecure and is trying to satisfy his desire for security. Maslow's hierarchy of needs theory consists of five levels. The levels are as follows from below; self-realization, esteem, social, security, physiological. In order for an individual to move from security to social, he or she must satisfy the need for security before the next need becomes dominant (Robbins, Decenzo, & Coulter, 2015). Bob's manager should set goals that facilitate Bob's lower safety needs and physiological needs. To meet Bob's physiological needs, the manager can ask him if he needs more time off, help with food, housing, and other physical needs. Depending on Bob's answer, the manager can outline a job and goals that will help him meet his physical needs
