The Haganah, Irgun, and Lehi were several clandestine Zionist military movements active during the duration of the British Mandate. Their goal was to create an independent Jewish state in Palestine. These movements fought hard and used particular strategies to achieve their goal. However, many of the strategies used to deal with the British and Arabs during the Mandate period are frowned upon by some and even seen as acts of terror. In my opinion, the movements have been remarkably effective in achieving their goal of creating an independent Jewish state as currently exists in Israel; the methods used by the movements to achieve their goal may initially be considered immoral, but some actions of the movements were justified while others were not. The Haganah was created to protect Palestinian Jews from local Arab gangs as the British did not appear to do so. make every effort to protect the Jews. Another purpose of the Haganah was to warn the occupiers and repel Arab attacks. Initially, the Haganah lacked a powerful main authority as it was very decentralized and lacked the necessary weapons. After 1929, the Haganah's task transformed dramatically. It became a much larger system that included almost all the people of the Jewish communities and many members of the cities. The Haganah also managed to procure foreign weapons and began setting up workplaces to make bombs and simple military equipment, transforming itself from a primitive military unit into a competent underground army. Initially, the leaders of the movement decided to adopt a policy of “havgalah”: the fighters were told to only defend the communities and not to carry out counterattacks against… Both Lehi were very effective groups, however I think their methods were rather immoral. If I had to choose a Zionist movement to be a part of, I would be part of the Haganah. It is true that the Haganah had its flaws, of course, but it seemed to be the most moral Zionist movement. If I had to choose how to establish the independent Jewish state, I would have adopted Gandhi's approach – civil disobedience – because it is the most moral. Also, I'm a pacifist and hate to see blood spilled. However, I cannot deny that the methods of the Zionist movements were effective. It is probably true that if they had not used those particular tactics, we would not have reached Israel. Although the actions of the Zionist movements were sometimes quite immoral, they were still very effective since we currently have the land of Israel.
