Abraham Lincoln was born on February 12, 1809 in Hardin County, Kentucky. Lincoln was the sixteenth president of the United States and served from 1861 until his assassination in 1865. Lincoln led the United States during the Civil War, hoping to preserve the Union. In my opinion, one of the most important aspects of his legacy is his commitment to abolishing slavery. Lincoln's early life made him the person people today consider one of the greatest presidents in American history. Lincoln faced so many issues as a boy that had a dramatic impact on his life. I believe Lincoln's early life was a major reason why he became one of the greatest presidents of all time. Lincoln and his family started out in a small log cabin on Nolin Creek, Hardin County, Kentucky. His father was Thomas Lincoln and his mother was Nancy Lincoln. It is safe to say that Lincoln grew up in a poor environment and had to work for everything he had. Lincoln's father, Thomas, was a farmer and carpenter, from where most of the family earned their income. Lincoln's family was religious and belonged to a Baptist church. It was clear that Lincoln's family was against slavery because the church they joined broke away from a larger church on the issue of slavery. When Lincoln was very young the family moved to Knobs Creek Farm, where he began to develop memories of his childhood. They spent five years here working on their farm and trying to make a living. Then Lincoln's father's difficulties with the title to the farm began. Instead of fighting for his farm, Lincoln's father, Thomas, decided to pack his bags and move his family to Pigeon Creek, Indiana. Lincoln was known for his strength and his ability to u...... middle of paper ...... demonstrate that Lincoln was capable of being a successful leader. Lincoln was the kind of person people could rely on when it came to getting things done. In conclusion, it is safe to say that Abraham Lincoln was one of the greatest presidents of the United States. His early life taught and influenced him into the type of person who should become president. Lincoln wanted nothing more than true equality between every man, white or black. He put in place some documents that protected slaves such as the Emancipation Proclamation, which used the military to protect slaves. He also tried to get Congress to pass the 13th Amendment so that slavery could be permanently outlawed. That being said, Lincoln was an all round good guy, he was honest, trustworthy, hardworking, passionate, caring, that's why he is one of the greatest presidents of all time..
