Mass media is an effective tool when dealing with the social aspects of life and helps convey messages that impact society. Companies use the benefits of media to market their products. They also appeal to viewers by building trust and trustworthiness through endorsements from respected and influential people such as athletes and celebrities. Large companies also appeal to their consumers through reason and logic, as well as appealing on an emotional level to convince potential customers to purchase their products. In previous advertisements, alcohol and tobacco companies used major issues that men, women and people of different races faced and appealed on an emotional level. Through the rhetorical appeal of pathos and ethics and connecting visual images with words to persuade viewers to purchase their products, the Gatorade Revolution commercial illustrates the comparison of evolution between innovative products and accepts all people as equal. Gatorade compares the innovative product with the change in society and acceptance of all human beings as equal by connecting images with sentences. Gatorade indirectly exploits the fact that at one point in history, people of different races and women were treated with little respect and given no rights, including playing professional sports. Gatorade implies how society has changed and accepted women and those of different races as equal human beings by having famous athletes advertised in their advertising. One in particular that stands out is when the script in the commercial says "(a)thletes trained longer, harder and changed the game", the visual representation of Muhammad Ali, Michael Jordan and Serena Williams are.. . middle of paper......so, Gatorade affiliated athletes build credibility with the products by incorporating that if consumers were to use their products, they too could be able to achieve their goals and in other words be like Mike. Gatorade has been a very successful company over the past few decades. Their success has led to endorsements from notable athletes. With the support of such famous athletes, Gatorade builds trust and credibility with its viewers through the example of famous athletes who have had prolific careers. Gatorade also appealed to its viewers on an emotional level, through the issues that women and people of different races face. The sponsored athletes in this commercial also have the implication of connecting the words to the images comparing the innovative product and the changes in the way society has started to accept all human beings as equal.
