Topic > A Doll's House, by Henrik Ibsen - 757

In the early 20th century, Nora began her life as the daughter of an educated oil tycoon named Cordell S. Williams. Business needs would prevent Cordell from having any more children. Nora was an only child. Nora was Cordell's pride and joy. Nora got everything she wanted. Mr. Williams would eventually lose his wealth as the markets crashed in 1913. Broke and unemployed, Cordell turned to a life of crime, taking on the gangster alias of Snakeskin Willie. In 1915, Snakeskin Willie was responsible for the London Heights Trust robbery, the largest bank robbery of the century. Shortly after the great London Heights episode, photos of Snakeskin Willie's infamous mug could be seen on every street lamp, every church and synagogue, every grocery store and every dank, squalid, sin-filled establishment in the dregs of all main cities in the area. It was around this time that Willie decided to move his family to the western meadows of the land of England. On the quiet prairies, Williams' home consisted of a 12' x 12' cedar cabin with a bed, fireplace and kitchen table. With an abundance of land, Willie decided to start his new life as a dairy farmer. It was in this new lifestyle, at the young age of 11, that Nora began her submissive relationship with her father. As Mrs. Elizabeth Williams was plagued by one illness after another, the job of caretaker was entrusted to Nora at the age of thirteen. His duties ranged from cooking to cleaning, bathing his ailing mother and taking care of his father's every whim. At the age of 18, during a family reunion in the countryside, Nora was introduced to a twenty-five year old m...... middle of paper.. ....c was for herself. When Krogstad is fired by Torvald, he sends a black mail to Nora so she can get her job back. Frantically Nora attempts to recover the copy of the forgery she engaged in before Torvald discovered it. When Torvald noticed Nora's indiscretion, he immediately suggested that she raise her children. It was at this point that I recognized Nora's ultimate selfish personality. He decides to leave Torvald and the children. Nora then “decided between the life she had and the life she wanted and chose the “good life” (taken in part by Orlando prosecutor Linda Drane Burdick from the State of Florida v. Casey Marie Anthony case transcripts). Nora has abandoned her husband. Nora abandoned her children. Where will Nora go? Nobody will ever know. Unless ADoll's House part 2 was written which I'm not aware of.
