One of the differences between the two is that the "Araby" character seems to be much creepier. In "A & P", Sammy displays no traits like this. In this story, the protagonist begins to fall in love with the girl who lives across the street. After going days and days without speaking to her, one day she approached him and spoke to him. The narrator said: “he asked me if I was going to Arabia. I forgot whether I answered yes or no. It would be a splendid bazaar; she said she would like to go” (249). After the narrator discovered that the girl wanted but couldn't go, he was determined to go and bring her a gift home.
