While images of starving orphans may touch the hearts of wealthy Westerners, those same images could trick viewers into higher donation rates. The money is then distributed as the organizations see fit. The donor learns nothing about the political and economic structure of the third world country he “supported” and goes about his day without knowing where his money actually went. There is a lack of education and as a result the financial gap between rich and poor continues to widen. Media crews infiltrating an impoverished society often fail to consider the damage they might cause. In many cases, film or similar forms of media, such as photojournalism, are used to capture the suffering of people in poverty. Suffering is often recorded and then ignored. The people involved in the ad or image go ahead and produce a product that they believe will increase monetary donations. This action raises the question: is it worth leaving an orphan child or a sick family to increase donations
