Some ideals such as hypersexuality, material possessions and hegemonic masculinity present in hip hop certainly highlight some of its negative aspects. Hip-hop in a way can sometimes promote feminism in the sense of sexual freedom (at least in the lyrics provided) where some songs condemn women for the same freedoms. It is suggested that many young people, especially young black men, begin to monitor and disrupt some of the messages and ideals that are embraced/followed. Personally, the ideals of much of hip-hop do not reflect my values or opinions on femininity or masculinity, even though I listen to most of the music. Being an educated young black man, I can kind of see through most of the gimmicks and fads that music portrays and I stick to my personal values more often than not. That said, there are times when I find myself reciting lyrics or enacting the same negative ideals that I personally don't believe in because I might like a song. This is where education and awareness come in and being able to recognize and correct my behavior, which is something I would like to see become more popular among my
