As we know, many violent crimes are related to firearms. Gun violence has been quite common for Americans. Some incidents of gun violence have caused significant events, such as the deaths of Senator Robert Kennedy and Martin Luther King. According to Kellerman, Rivara, Somes, Reay, Francisco, Banton, Prodzinski, Fligner, and Hackman (1992), more than 29,000 Americans commit suicide each year and the suicide rate continues to increase. More people kill themselves with firearms than with other methods. Each year “approximately 400 American children die needlessly and more than 3,500 are injured from unintentional gunshot wounds” (Glatt, 2005). According to Hahn, Bilukha, Crosby, Fullilove, Liberman, Moscicki, Snyder, Tuma & Briss (2005), although gun violence rates in the United States have declined since 1993, in 2001 they were still the second leading cause of injury-related death.
