Laws and legislationsLaws and legislations were introduced due to the fact that ICT was growing and because the use of large computerized databases became very useful for storing sensitive personal data without the individual's knowledge. Employers, credit card companies or insurance companies could access this confidential data. Therefore personal privacy is important as it is our human right not to allow others to have access to personal information about your age, religious beliefs, family circumstances or academic qualifications without authorization. A single user ================ ==A single user would use various software applications in everyday life through ICT. The main uses of ICT software are: Ø E-mail Ø Internet Ø Mail merge Ø Excel Ø FrontPage Ø Access Due to the increase in the amount of information available, particularly on the Internet, the interest of hackers in data theft, therefore the government has had to produce several legislations to prevent this from happening. Laws have also been created for the misuse of data and viruses. Before 1990 there was no law against computer misuse, so it was legal to send a virus to someone's computer. Since then, several pieces of legislation have come into force that prevent this from happening. Appropriate Protection Acts: Many of these legislations come into force in our community, including cyber cafés and libraries. In cyber cafés many users use the same computer, so it is important that the information is protected and not found by others. There are also many people who use the same computers in libraries. Systems must be designed to prevent information leakage so that users are reassured of their privacy. Computer Misuse Act (1990) The Computer Misuse Act has been used to correct these situations as it is used to stop various criminal offenses from occurring. The three main crimes are hacking, viruses and other disturbances that could damage your data.
