Less attentiveness can make them "feel overwhelmed by all the signs, signals, pedestrians and vehicles at intersections" ("Older drivers"), making them very stressed therefore making mistakes more easily driving, especially in heavy traffic. Decreased reflexes and reaction time are due to stiffening or loss of muscles. Therefore, it can make it more difficult for them to turn their heads to look for other vehicles to change lanes; and the tightening of their ankle muscles will cause them to be unable to quickly transition from the accelerator to the brake, preventing them from stopping quickly to avoid hitting another vehicle or any obstacles that may be in the road. Tightness or weakness of arm muscles can also cause them not to “turn the steering wheel quickly” (“Older drivers”), unable to swerve to avoid something. All these factors together do not help if an elderly person ends up aquaplaning or slipping on ice because they will not be able to react in time causing a loss of control and possible
