The CH (sp3) hydrogens of our product displayed at the wavelength of 2959 cm-1 are related to the methyl groups located at the ends of isopentyl acetate4. A very prominent and strong peak located at 1742 cm-1 shows that C=O ester stretching is present in the product, while at 1244 cm-1 the spectrum shows a strong peak representing C(=O)- stretching Or which is crucial to the structure of isopentyl acetate. Shown in my IR spectrum is a weak OH (H-bonded) peak at 3464 cm-1 which shows that there is an isopentyl alcohol impurity present in my product. Isopentyl alcohol has similar boiling points and density as my product, so the impurity could be easily evaporated with isopentyl acetate during distillation. Isopentyl alcohol was also present in my 1H-NMR spectrum supporting the impurity peak 3464
