The laboratory safety manager plays a very important role in the efficiency of the structure. Health, safety and site protection should always be a priority. In the case study, Renee is facing many different problems in her company, Best Pet Test, Inc. The company deals with blood and urine samples and uses PCR as one of its techniques. Renee must invest in failures and offer suggestions on how to improve the state of the company. The company had a lot of things wrong. Harold, the processor didn't keep accurate records. There was no record of how he ran the company. Samples were not labeled correctly. The samples were labeled with barcodes for traceability. However, within the last year the barcode reader was broken. Therefore, blood samples were labeled manually. This was evident because real-time PCR testing for the presence of bacterial pathogens in dog samples was inconsistent. Often many times laboratory workers could also be seen with their lab coats outside the laboratory. This was incorrect because personal protective clothing must be disposed of after use. The company also had chemicals in unlabeled bottles, as well as overflowing sharps containers. To make matters worse, laboratory waste had been found in an abandoned quarry. Due to the departure of her colleagues, Renee now must develop a business continuity plan. In this plan, remember to focus on site safety, hazardous waste management, and hazardous waste training. Once you have developed a training guide for your company, it should include all the basic information for proper lab care. There should be detailed information in the training on how to properly handle the equipment, chemicals and proper record keeping. ...... half the paper ...... n compliance with the most current regulations on hazardous materials. New hires should receive training within six months and then annually thereafter. Hazardous Waste Training References (2014, March 9).
