However, if we can better understand when, why, and how mentally ill people can become violent, and if we can better understand how to identify and treat the illnesses these people suffer from, we can dramatically improve the lives of many people. People should know more about what some mentally ill people can actually do. Some of them may act deviantly and break informal social rules. For example, when a person suffering from schizophrenia speaks randomly in places where he should be silent due to his imagination. Furthermore, some mentally ill people are simply crazy and commit serious crimes by breaking the law, shootings at schools or in public places. Most people don't realize the extent of the situation until it affects themselves or someone they care about. Laws may punish these types of criminals, but they do not compensate the families and friends who have been affected.
