Ibn Al Haytham discovered the properties of light in that tribulation and wrote his famous book (Optics) during the time he spent in prison. He says that the light contains straight lines falling from the self-illuminating figures, like the sun, illuminated in breadth like a candle or reflected like the light of the moon carrying images.
