Today's society perceives the female gender as weaker than the male gender. Many Hollywood films portray women as needing more guidance in the workplace, more protection in social settings, and not being able to compete on the same level as men. Pitch Perfect destroys the stereotype that women are the weaker sex compared to men through the film's symbols, musical selections and characters. The stereotype that men are superior to women dates back hundreds of thousands of years. “Seeing the world through the eyes of oppressed groups has raised new questions about our preconceived notions in many aspects of social reality” (15). The film Pitch Perfect symbolizes women as the oppressed group that seeks to break the traditional perceptions of women seen in other Hollywood films. Traditional Hollywood film portrays men as superheroes or as those who work full-time jobs every day. The male character is seen saving the damsel in distress while the female character is the one who gets saved. Pitch Perfect works through the stereotype of gender inequality shown in many films.
