Topic > The needs of Aboriginal people and young Canadians...

Did you know that in 2006 the number of Aboriginal people in Canada exceeded one million? This means that Aboriginal people represented 3.8% of Canada's total population. Although this number is much lower than that of the non-Aboriginal population, they impact Canada, north and south. Unfortunately, some Aboriginal groups do not have a stable lifestyle and the Canadian government is very selective in helping them. Overall, I want to be able to help First Nation people receive the funding they need to have a thriving economic workforce. First, Aboriginal people do not have enough jobs and school buildings to support the large population of young people. Nearly half of Aboriginal Canadians are under the age of 24 and will therefore need multiple positions to work and go to school. In 2011, only 10% of Aboriginal people had a college degree and about 20% had a collage diploma. This presents a problem for First Nation people aiming for medium to high paid work. If they don't have a degree it is more difficult for them to find a job that they like and that pays well. Some Aboriginal students at university or college cannot do their best or cannot attend because they are caring for their family. The government should find a sustainable way to give money to these students so that they can go to school in the hope of finding a good job. With younger children it is not always possible for them to stay in school. If they don't finish elementary or high school, their education will be stunted and they won't be able to compete in today's economy. The government should encourage more school education and build more schools on reserves so that Aboriginal people can... middle of paper... the government has no right to try to change that. They have given opportunities to natives who don't respect their culture and the Canadian government must respect that. If Aboriginal groups chose to remain on reserves, the government should be fine. What the government should do is provide them with fertile lands and better healthcare. They should provide resources that are beneficial to Aboriginal people and are very similar to the benefits of non-Aboriginal people. In conclusion, I believe that both non-Aboriginal and Aboriginal people should be treated equally and fairly. The Canadian government should work to provide quality education, jobs, healthcare and adequate funding. Older cohorts of the Aboriginal population are much smaller than younger cohorts and this is changing the needs and demands of Aboriginal people.
