America's Downward Spiral In recent years, the United States economy has found itself in what many would see as a recession. Americans differ in how they react to a recession. Some, like Michael Moore, believe it is a downward spiral as big businesses and their shareholders gain more money and power, and workers gain less money and stability. With a loss of stability for the American worker comes the fear of losing their confidence. health benefits, social security, retirement plan, and most importantly, their jobs. Moore's reaction to this major business takeover was to create several documentaries, Roger and Me, Pets or Meat: The Return to Flint, and The Big One. Along with Moore's reaction to this recession were several authors who published pieces describing things like; downward mobility, wilderness, hunger, poverty and homelessness.
