The Lottery Ticket by Anton Paviovich Chekhov is a very dramatic story! Chekhov uses dialogue to reveal feelings and information about characters. The author states, “'Surely I should go abroad too,' said the wife, 'But look at the ticket number'” (Chekhov 3). The dialogue makes the reader feel happy that the wife can do whatever she wants. However, the reader is still not sure whether he won the lottery or not. The reader knows a lot about the characters from the words they say to each other. Additionally, the reader gets an idea of how the main characters react to situations and how they feel through dialogues in the story. To give the reader more information about the characters the book says: “'It's very nice to daydream at the expense of others!' is what his eyes expressed: “No, don't you dare” (Chekhov 4). The dialogue expresses how the husband and wife are both greedy because they want the money all for themselves and will do anything to get it.
