Existential Therapy and Gestalt TherapyThe existential approach represents respect for the person, the exploration of new aspects of human behavior and divergent methods of understanding people (Corey, 2013) . Existentialists do not focus on instinctive drives or internalized others, but on the inevitable comparison of the person with the data of the human condition. Yalom (1980) described these data as death, freedom, isolation and meaninglessness. (Bauman and Waldo, 1998). Existential therapy is about one's being; the world they live in, the implications of time and the knowledge of being whole. The fundamental dimensions of the human condition, according to the existential approach, include (1) the capacity for self-awareness; (2) freedom and responsibility; (3) create one's identity and establish meaningful relationships with others; (4) the search for meaning, purpose, values, and goals; (5) anxiety as a life condition; and (6) awareness of death and non-being. They all bring meaning to life and explore the degree to which a client is doing the things he or she values. Gestalt therapy is an existential, phenomenological, process-based approach created on the premise that individuals must be understood in the context of their ongoing relationship with the external world. environment. Awareness, choice, and responsibility are the cornerstone of the practice (Corey, 2013). There is little difference between existential and Gestalt therapy. Both focus on the here and now; and focus on what and how clients can learn about the way they live their lives. Existential therapy sees the client as the center of their world; Gestalt pays attention to the customer and his relationship with the environment. It exists... middle of paper... she didn't like it very much, upon returning she is afraid of having to go back to work. His work in Iraq was continuous in a combat environment, and although his entire unit returned home safely, many of his actions were judged and questioned. She feels like she has lost herself, she can't figure out how to move forward in a positive and happy direction, she is essentially stuck. Daisy's father was not a good person and it was no secret that he did not love her or her mother and criticized everything they did. Her mother did her best, but always put herself first when it came to protecting herself from her father. Gestalt theory focuses not on the why, but on the how. Finding out how Daisy thinks, feels, what her behavior is, as well as bringing out her memories, will help her understand what is happening right now and lead her in a direction towards positive choices and fulfillment..
