The amount of useful concepts you gain through learning emotional intelligence (EI) will have a profound impact on both your personal and professional life. The purpose of EQ is to have the ability to express, understand, and manage our emotions, as well as having the ability to understand, interpret, and respond to the emotions of others (Bradberry & Greaves, 2009). For the purposes of the final assignment I will discuss what I have learned, the results of the online EQ assessment, and a strategy that will improve my EQ. Based on the multiple concepts gained, an important lesson learned is what true social awareness actually means. I have always believed that my ability to observe people was quite good, as well as quite good accuracy in reading people and knowing the atmosphere of the room. However, after reading EQ 2.0, I learned that true social awareness is much more than observing individuals. Social awareness is about respecting, valuing, and truly knowing others who may not share the same values or beliefs as me. I learned to take and change my attention from internal to external. By doing so, I will be able to identify, understand, and respond to individuals' emotions and behavior, which is the purpose of social awareness (Bradberry & Greaves, 2009). Developing my social awareness will not be successful until I have strong self-awareness. I need to be able to recognize and understand my own emotions first in order to see others clearly. The impact EI will have on my career path is essential to my success. I understand that to learn to be present in the moment and achieve active listening I need to develop a stronger EQ. Being able to connect and understand with people on a deeper level and see the world through their persona… middle of paper… emotions to bring out. This strategy will help minimize emotionally charged responses due to emotional triggers that occur in our daily lives (Bradberry & Greaves, 2009). The benefits of this strategy are personal and spiritual growth, as well as happiness and a successful career. In conclusion, I learned that social awareness is about understanding and identifying the emotions of others. It's not about "me", but about those around me. Self-awareness cannot be truly developed if my self-awareness is not fully developed. The challenge I'm focusing on is my self-esteem. Using the strategic choice “Lean into your discomfort,” addressing my feelings and emotions instead of avoiding them, will also help develop my self-esteem. Ultimately, the benefits of having strong emotional intelligence will help build trust and maintain strong relationships.
