Hollywood Race and Gender from the Perspective of the Tears of the Sun Film Poster Films seem to have a tendency to have the lead roles played by a white male character . In this poster we can see Bruce Willis on the cover. You can clearly see how his image overshadows all the other elements of the poster. Including other soldiers some of them are not the same race and a woman. The woman in this film plays the role of a doctor who treats the wounded in a remote African jungle, but she still seems like a secondary character even though her role is something that people consider very important. The way the titles are arranged on the poster shows how the hierarchy is set up, Bruce Willis at the top and all the other characters are at the bottom with darker colors which don't make them stand out much, this shows the preference you see in Hollywood for the typical white male character who comes in and has to save everyone else, even though some of the other characters play important roles in the film they won't be taken as seriously either because they are a minority race or because they are women. This shows how minorities are mistreated and not given enough credit in films and also how women are not treated with the same importance as men in most films. This shows that Hollywood has a tendency to use white male characters for most of their leading roles in films. The woman in this poster seems to have a starring role among the soldiers since she is in front of them, but she is still nothing compared to the protagonist above all others. This shows how Hollywood maintains a preference on who the main characters will be in their films. The position... in the center of the paper... of each character is reproduced, giving priority to one over the others, even if the film is not just about that character. So the poster can be seen as influenced by a character. All of this boils down to an unbalanced Hollywood that statistically shows how prone it is to having an extreme amount of white male leads versus a very small amount of women and minorities as leads, making it difficult for change to happen. All humans like to be among people who are similar to them, so Hollywood is more likely to continue casting white males over other types of people due to the fact that they share similar traits. So even if in the future the minority population grows and says more women are applying for jobs in the film industry, the trend will most likely survive and they will still be seen to always prefer white males in Hollywood..
